Outcomes of a BSc hons Quantity Surveying Programme at UCT

Upon completion of the BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying programme, I am competent to:

​

  • Undertake financial planning and control of new and existing facilities;

​

  • Undertake property development and property portfolio management;

​

  • Value property;

​

  • Apply appropriate quantity surveying techniques to building and civil engineering projects;

​

  • Perform appropriate professional quantity surveying management functions;

​

  • Work effectively in teams; and

​

  • Undertake research and produce reports.

Aims of the Quantity Surveying Programme

To provide employable professional graduates to the Quantity Surveying Profession; to fully satisfy the criteria for accreditation in terms of the requirements of the South African Council for the Quantity Surveying Profession; the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors; and the Chartered Institute of Building .

Outcomes of a BSc in Construction Studies Degree

 

​

 

The three-year BSc in Construction Studies curriculum prepared me to:

 

  • Utilize computer packages for presentation, scheduling, and information processing.

 

  • Manage and create tender and contract documentation for construction projects.

 

  • Estimate the cost of construction projects and handle their financial aspects.

 

  • Supervise the construction of structures and associated infrastructure.

 

  • Manage a construction firm's human resources.

 

  • Understand and assess economic issues affecting the construction industry and individual construction firms on both a micro and macro level.

 

  • Understand the time value of money and how to use discounted cash flow analysis to evaluate various real estate investments.

 

  • Liaise with construction specialists regarding spatial concepts, budgetary considerations, and construction assembly issues.

 

 

 

Aims of the Construction Studies Programme

 

  • To supply the construction industry with employable management graduates.

 

  • To fully meet the accreditation standards established by the South African Council for Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP) and the South African Council for Quantity Surveying Professions (SACQSP) (SACQSP)
